Stand up for live music venues in Brighton and Hove

Supporters of Brighton’s music scene are asking you sign an online petition to help stop the closure of the city’s music venues. Campaigners, led by local promoter Mark Stack, want an end to the ‘insanity’ of the current practice, where someone can deliberately move next door to a long established music venue and then force its closure by complaining to the council about noise levels.
On March 26, Mark will be presenting the petition to the full council meeting at Brighton Town Hall. Councillors will then be obliged to debate the issue.

Government makes U Turn on ticket tout legislation

On Monday, March 9, Mike Weatherley will partially welcome the Government’s U-turn when speaking in Parliament during the Secondary Ticketing debate. Mr Weatherley, the Conservative MP for Hove and Portslade has campaigned on ticket tout legislation for the last 4 years. In his speech he will say the new law deserves polite applause and two cheers – nothing more as new amendments are considered for the Consumer Rights Bill, following a successful campaign to put fans first.

Council commits to early HIV testing

Brighton and Hove City Council has committed to halving late and undiagnosed HIV by passing a motion on HIV testing in support of the ‘Halve It’ campaign. The motion which was passed unanimously by the Council on Thursday, December 11 recognises the importance of local action in coordinating and commissioning accessible and effective HIV testing, and outlines a commitment by the Council to strengthening its own provision of HIV testing services through working with local NHS partners, HIV charities and patient groups.
