Heart of Wales Film Festival to put emerging queer filmmakers centre stage

Graham Robson May 11, 2022

To coincide with Llandovery’s inaugural Pride on Saturday, June 25, Heart of Wales has launched its very own Film Festival, not only giving the market town an opportunity to engage with queer narratives but also breaking down barriers for marginalised talent and putting emerging queer filmmakers centre stage.

Due to Heart of Wales Film Festival (HOWFF) taking place in the heart of rural mid-Wales, the team is especially keen to hear about the rural queer experience, however submissions can be of any genre, just so long as they’re under three minutes.

All shortlisted films will be premiered at the Heart of Wales Pride Cinema stage on June 25 as part of the wider Pride celebrations. Each film shown will receive an official HOWFF ‘shortlist’ laurel and the winners will be announced the following week, receiving laurels and trophies for the subsequent categories: Best Picture (sub 1min); Best Picture (1-2mins); Best Picture (2-3 mins); Best Director; Best Writer; Best Performance in a Lead Role; Best Performance in a Supporting Role; Best Sound Design; Best Cinematography; Best Editing; Jury Grand Prize for Outstanding Microfilm.

If that wasn’t enough, HOWFF has a stellar panel of judges lined up, each a brilliant LGBTQ+ artist carving a successful career in the film and television industry.

Entries close on Friday, June 3 and HOWFF will be dropping announcements about judges and answering any queries via the Heart of Wales social media.
