What brought YOU to Brighton & Hove?

Graham Robson August 11, 2023

In 2024, Brighton’s community publisher QueenSpark Books will be publishing a book and a series of podcasts comprising stories of migration into and around Brighton & Hoveas part of its Brighton Incoming project.

For the past five months, QueenSpark has been interviewing people from The Bevy, and participants from Refugee Radio and Brighton & Hove Faith in Action – they’d now like to hear your stories and memories from across the city, for possible inclusion for publication and broadcast.

You might be a long-term resident, or a new arrival; a ‘down-from-Londoner’ or a student that never left; you might have moved here for work, leisure or to feel part of a community, or to escape persecution and danger…

QueenSpark documents the people’s history’ of the city, and would like to hear your tales.

If you would like your story to be considered for inclusion, you can use the following questions as a guide:

– When and why did you first come here?

– What were your first impressions and experiences?

– Have you moved around the city since then? If so, why?

– What do you like, and dislike, about the city?

Your submission does not have to be long, ‘well-written’ or perfectly told, and can be written or recorded – if it is selected, it will be edited prior to publication or broadcast.

You can send text or an audio file to john@queensparkbooks.org.uk by 5pm on Monday, August 21. By submitting, you grant permission for QueenSpark to publish and broadcast your contribution in print, and online.
