GirlFlix, a lesbian and queer women dance party, which has been bringing together self-identifying women since February 2023, is to celebrate its first birthday and Valentineās Day on Friday, February 16 at Melon in Worthing.
The Valentineās and first birthday party will have five iconic DJs and a live singer: DJ S2K spinning funky tunes to get you warmed up; Billie Gold with a bag of show tunes and popular singalongs; Tor Llyod & Eliza Pink bashing out back-to-back house tunes; and Wildblood & Queenie bringing diva-fuelled disco ditties to delight!
Stephanie Young, founder of GirlFlix, said: āOur events are growing more and more popular, and people are travelling far and wide to come to them. Including London, Eastbourne, Southampton, as well as Brighton. People are reaching out, car sharing and making new connections. Some women haven’t been out for years and this is opening up a new chapter form them.
āWe are more than a one-night event. We are bringing women together from all age groups. The oldest attendee so far has been in her 70s. The clientele are so grateful that there is finally a safe space to connect with other likeminded gay women. A place where they can make friends, find love and have a good time.
āSo far the venues have been in Worthing. I lived in Brighton for 16 years and have been in Shoreham for six years now. When I first moved here there wasn’t really any community, so I started doing meet up events which lead me to wanting more. I couldn’t find anywhere to go and dance and have fun that was female focused and had soul, so I created it and GirlFlix was born.
āThe GirlFlix crew are a community in itself; we all work together bringing our own individual skills together the make this happen – for the community by the community.
āMy hopes for the coming 12 -24 months is to take it on tour to the places people are travelling from and also to feature at Worthing and Chichester Pride.ā
