PRIDE ARTS PREVIEW: ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’

Besi Besemar July 14, 2014

New Venture Theatre’s second amateur production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, returns for a limited run as part of Brighton Pride’s Arts and Film Festival, 2014.

Hedwig & the Angry Inch

Following its huge success and sell-out shows at this years Brighton Fringe Festival 2014, Hedwig plays from July 31 to August 3 at the New Venture Theatre.

Internationally ignored song stylist Hedwig Schmidt is an East German rock ‘n’ roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation.

“It’s hard to think of a show that better embodies the values of acceptance, tolerance, love, and joy for life that make up the Pride movement. Hedwig has it all.” – director Frank Leon

Backed by hard-rocking band The Angry Inch on their East Sussex Tour, Hedwig tells us of her life’s search for The Origin of Love and the people who have made her the woman she is today.

Sugar daddies, punk idols, downtrodden Eastern European drag queens and the soulmate who stole her songs to achieve rock star fame; all put in an appearance.

It’s a rocking ride, funny, touching and ultimately inspiring to anyone who has felt life gave them an inch when they deserved a mile.
