Transgender women sent to male prison in Bristol

Organisers of Bristol Pride call on Bath Magistrates to see sense and review the placement of a Trans women from Bath to a male prison in Bristol. Tara Hudson from Bath was sentenced to serve 13 weeks in a Bristol male prison last Friday after pleading guilty to an assault that took place in Bath last December.

Green Party launch national LGBTIQ Manifesto in Soho

Natalie Bennett, leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, launched the party’s LGBTIQ Manifesto in Soho today. The manifesto contains pledges to: Review the discriminatory blood ban; introduce LGBTIQ-inclusive sex education; protect LGBTIQ asylum seekers; improve services for trans people and promote LGBTIQ rights abroad. Bennett was joined in Soho by Green Party Deputy Leader, Amelia Womack and Human Rights Campaigner, Peter Thatchell.

Green leader apologises for candidate’s transgender comments

GREEN PARTY leader Natalie Bennett has apologised for comments made by the Green parliamentary candidate for Cambridge, Dr Rupert Read, about trans* people.
In a twitter exchange Dr Read said he found the word cisgender “troubling”, going on to describe trans* women as “a sort of opt-in version of what it is to be a woman”.
