Unemployment in Kemptown and Peacehaven continues to fall

New figures released yesterday (May 15) show that the number of people in work in the South East has increased by 212,000 since the last election.

This gives more peopleĀ the financial security of a regular pay packet, making them better able to provide for their families and spend money locally.

In Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven the number of unemployed receiving Job Seekers Allowance has fallen by 697 since the last election to 3.5% which is below the national average of 3.6%. Youth unemployment has also fallen by 40% in the same period.

Simon Kirby, Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, has welcomed the news.

He said:Ā ā€œIt is very good news that 697 more people are now in work in Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven since the election. That means that 697 more hardworking people with a regular pay packet to bring home to their families and a more financially secure future.

“I am also pleased that youth unemployment has continued to fall and that our young people have been able to secure newly available job opportunities.

ā€œThere is further to go, but as these figures show that the Conservativesā€™ long-term economic plan is working. We need to stick to the plan. Itā€™s getting people off benefits and into work, delivering a more secure future for people in Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven who want to work hard and get on in life.ā€
