The Rainbow Mile to raise funds for Brighton Rainbow Fund in August 2023

Graham Robson November 5, 2022

The Rainbow Mile, a world-first event that combines LGBTQ+ and sporting communities, is to kick off at Madeira Drive in Brighton in August 2023. Taking place during Pride Month in different cities around the world, participants are asked to run, walk, skip, or dance their way through the mile – celebrating however they would like!

The mile is accessible to people of all abilities. According to the organisers, for the vast majority of the 10,000 strong participants, the Rainbow Mile is more about making memories and having fun than worrying about your mile time.

Whether you are an elite miler seeking to become the inaugural Rainbow Mile champion or you are just here for the party, the Rainbow Mile promises to be an experience like no other with DJs, entertainment, cheering crowds and heart-pumping excitement – all raising funds for local LGBTQ+ communities.

Funds raised at the Brighton event in August 2023 will be donated to the Brighton Rainbow Fund, the central hub for fundraising within the Brighton & Hove LGBTQ+ communities, which distributes grants to local projects which benefit, and make a difference, to the lives of hundreds of LGBTQ+  individuals.

Organisers say: “Our mission is to celebrate the unique existence of every individual as a collective group and amplify the voices of LGBTQ+ people through sport. All profits from the Rainbow Mile events return to the local LGBTQ+ communities.”

The Rainbow Mile will be held annually in multiple cities around the world. Kicking off in August 2023 in Brighton, and extending to St. Kilda, Australia in January 2024. Further event locations in Europe and Asia will be announced soon!
