Mike Weatherley, the Conservative MP for Hove and Portslade, has met with representatives from Attitude is Everything, a charity which supports the music industry to make live music events more accessible.
Mike was keen to help promote this important issue and has asked the Chief Executive of Attitude is Everything, Suzanne Bull, to become a judge on his Rock the House competition panel.
Rock the House, a music competition launched by Mike to raise awareness of Intellectual Property and live music, has also updated the criteria for the ‘Best Music Venue’ to include access and facilities for deaf and disabled people.
Attitude is Everything is concerned that ticketing abuse is having a detrimental effect on the availability of suitable tickets for deaf and disabled music fans and is shortly to release a ‘State of Access’ report, which will focus on this issue. As well as linking Attitude is Everything with the Hove-based Noise Abatement Society, Mike has invited representatives from Attitude is Everything to give evidence at the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Ticketing Abuse, of which he is a co-chair.
Mike said: “I was delighted to be able to help Attitude is Everything raise a number of important issues that affect deaf and disabled people and look forward to welcoming the charity to parliament again. I hope that by joining the judging panel on Rock the House and having changed our criteria for venues we can also draw attention to the needs of a committed group of music fans.”
