Under new Russian legislation, transsexuals and trans* people will no longer qualify for driving licences.
RUSSIAN legislators complain there are too many road accidents in Russia today and are tightening medical controls to ban people from driving, by listing fetishism, exhibition and voyeurism as ‘mental disorders’.
The Association of Russian Lawyers for Human Rights says the new law is ‘discriminatory’ while the head of Russia’s Professional Drivers Union says the tightening of medical requirements is ‘fully justified.’
The move has been condemned by human rights lawers all over the world and follows the imposition of an anti gay law in 2013 making the promotion of ‘non-traditional lifestyles’ in Russia, illegal.
