LGBT HISTORY MONTH: Screening of ‘The Celluloid Closet’ in Eastbourne

To celebrate LGBT History Month in February, The Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne will present a special screening of The Celluloid Closet.

Towner Art Gallery are teaming up with Eastbourne Rainbow, a LGBT+ group for the 50+ Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities living in Eastbourne and the surrounding area, and Bourne Out, a social group for LGBT+ people living in Eastbourne.

The screening will be introduced  by Dr Niall Richardson, from University of Sussex.

Academy-award winning filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman delve into the archive to present a comprehensive – and immensely entertaining – history of queer representations from a century of film history.

Based on Vito Russo’s seminal 1981 book of the same name, The Celluloid Closet is narrated by Lily Tomlin, and features interviews with a roster of stars including Tony Curtis, Whoopi Goldberg, Tom Hanks, Shirley MacLaine, Gore Vidal and Armistead Maupin (who also wrote the narration).
