Simon Kirby, MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven continues his campaign to secure redevelopment funding for the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Once again today he took up the issue at the highest level of Government when he met with Chancellor George Osborne in order to reiterate the business case for the hospital redevelopment and urge the Chancellor to release the funding as soon as possible to allow the redevelopment to start.
Earlier this week Mr Kirby’s campaign received the endorsement of Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt MP.
Mr Hunt said: “Simon has campaigned for a new Brighton hospital since his election in 2010 and has made an excellent and compelling case for the redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital in his Brighton Kemptown Constituency. He has pressed the case on many occasions and has been a strong champion for his area.”
Mr Kirby added: “I was pleased to have the opportunity to speak with the Chancellor again about the need for funding to redevelop Royal Sussex County Hospital.
“The £420million that I am campaigning for will make a huge difference to people in my constituency and across the wider area.
“I told the Chancellor in no uncertain terms how important this issue is, and I thank him for taking my message on board.
“In addition to the endorsement I have received from the Health Secretary this week, it shows that the campaign has real momentum, and I urge everyone in the city to get behind it.”
