Simon Kirby, MP

Simon Kirby, MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven has called on Brighton and Hove City Council and East Sussex County Council to protect sensitive sites in his constituency from unauthorised traveller encampments.

Simon has written to both Councils calling on them to protect sensitive areas which have seen previous unauthorised encampments.

These sites include East Brighton Park, Happy Valley, Saltdean Oval, Telscombe Tye, as well as the Dell and the Joff in Peacehaven.

His intervention comes as the Council prepares to evict a large encampment from the Waterhall area of the City.

 He said:

“I want to encourage both Councils to take the necessary action to prevent unauthorised traveller encampments taking place at sensitive locations. I would also encourage local residents to remain vigilant.

I have been contacted by many constituents who have raised with me their concerns about the negative effects encampments have on their area and I am also concerned about the amount of taxpayers’ money spent in clearing up after these encampments.”
