Drag Race Holland crowns winner

Rachel Badham November 9, 2020

Drag Race Hollandā€™s first season has crowned Envy Peru as its winner after four queens competed in the finals. South American drag queen Envy Peru was up against Maā€™Ma Queen, Miss Abby OMG, Janey Jacke in a show which saw the contestants perform a medley of RuPaul songs and present their ā€˜best dragā€™, where Envy donned a Dita Von Teese inspired look.

Envyā€™s win means she is the first Latina queen to win Drag Race. After her victory, she told Entertainment Weekly: ā€œIā€™m proud to be a face, example, and role model for the Latin community. Theyā€™re lacking acceptance. Thereā€™s a lot of machismo there, so I just want to show the kids who are queer that you can achieve your dreams, even though youā€™re Latin and queer.ā€

She continued: ā€œI want to be an example for them and, hopefully, with this crown, I can make a difference so that mothers who have queer kids can be more accepting and see queerness as a blessing instead of a flaw.ā€ 2020 also saw the franchiseā€™s first Indian winner after Priyanka won Drag Race Canada season 1 in September. In addition, the show took home six Emmys at the annual TV awards, including the honour of Outstanding Competition Program.

Drag Race Holland has not yet announced a second series, but Drag Race UK season 2 is set to air in 2021.
