Caution urged over European Health Insurance card websites

Simon Kirby, MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, has warned against using sham websites for applying for a European Health Insurance Card.

In a letter to MP’s, Jane Ellison the Minister for Public Health, urges holiday makers to make sure they apply for their Insurance Card through proper websites. The EHIC is free for all those normally resident in the UK.

Simon said: “I would urge all my constituents from Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven to contact the gov.uk website and telephone number to apply for their EHIC.

“I am pleased that the Government is taking several measures against these sham websites. The Government is taking action against these websites. The Government Digital Service has been working with google to limit advertisements for misleading websites.

“Remember the EHIC is free so please don’t use a website if you are asked to pay.”
