Birmingham Pride launches new, official Facebook page

Graham Robson February 2, 2022

Birmingham Pride, which returns on Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25, has launched a new, official Facebook page after a “malicious, highly coordinated cyberattack” locked them out of their original page. To follow Birmingham Pride, CLICK HERE.

In a statement published on Facebook, Birmingham Pride said: “At the beginning of December 2021, the Birmingham Pride Facebook page was subjected to a malicious, highly coordinated cyberattack, that resulted in them taking over the page fraudulently.

“We have since attempted, daily, to regain control of the page through Facebook, without success. Despite daily communication and every effort internally and externally, Facebook has not reinstated the page or given any indication that they intend to do so.

“We have been going round in circles for TWO months, without success. Over the last 12 years, we have amassed 70,000 followers on the Birmingham Pride page, who follow us for community information, comment and information about the Birmingham Pride festival itself. It is a devastating blow.

“We have concluded that we will need to start over. To start again, from the beginning. At the start of LGBTQ History Month, itā€™s important that we share resources and information together.

“The new Birmingham Pride Facebook page will be called Birmingham Pride Official and is located here. Facebook has been our main communication platform for a number of years, so could we kindly ask for your support by following the new page and sharing with your followers to do so too. We would be most grateful.

“Thank you in advance for your support.”
