Queer Short Film events in Brighton and Lewes

Graham Robson November 16, 2022

Don’t miss a double helping of queer short films coming to Brighton and Lewes next week!

First up is Bird’s Eye View‘s Queeriosities From the Archive, which shows at Lewes Depot on Tuesday, November 22 and at Phoenix Art Space in Brighton on Wednesday, November 23.

Queeriosities is a series of short films that digs deep into archives across the UK and beyond, bringing stories of sexual awakenings and realisations, love and lust through a feminist lens from the 1930s to now.

The event organisers say: “Freed from the restrictions of mainstream filmmaking, this collection of hidden gems from the archives is a celebration of desires which invites us to question, learn and enjoy our sexual selves.”

Secondly, T A P E x Invisible Women present After Hours at Brighton’s Phoenix Art Space on Wednesday, November 23.

After Hours, co-curated by T A P E and Invisible Women, brings together archive and contemporary film to explore the connections between urban space, music and activism through feminist and queer lenses.

The event organisers say: “Turn up the bass and join us on an immersive journey, from the dance bars of 1960s Soho to the warehouse raves of the 1990s, via the sound systems of South London and two sets of nightclub toilets. To party is political – it’s time to reclaim the night.”
