Queer Brighton artist Oli Spleen returns to music with The Mirror, his first collaboration with Wolfgang Dubieniec

Graham Robson October 6, 2023

The first release since 2022’s Still Life album, queer Brighton artist Oli Spleen returns to music with The Mirror, his first collaboration with Wolfgang Dubieniec which is due for general release on October 20

A more reflective and introverted song than others in Oli’s back catalogue, The Mirror depicts the vulnerability of opening you heart to someone new. While the most recent phase of Spleen’s musical journey started with 2019’s Gaslight Illuminations album which depicted the fallout and aftermath of a toxic relationship, with The Mirror we find Oli facing the fear of opening himself to a relationship again, having gone through a process of therapy and healing.

The song can be previewed via Oli’s Bandcamp page

A video was shot by Wolfgang at the house of the artist Mark Walter, owner of Jeff the ginger cat who appears in the video. This video was premiered as part of an art installation for the exhibition InHarmsWay which ran at the Electro Studios Gallery in St Leonards on Sea in September.

2023 also marks 20 years since Oli Spleen’s first band The Flesh Happening was formed and ten years since his debut solo album Fag Machine was released.
