PREVIEW: Bottom @The Marlborough Theatre

Willy Hudson brings BOTTOM to the Marlborough Theatre on March 2 and 3.

WILLY is a performer and writer from Devon. His debut solo show BOTTOM had a successful run at Edinburgh 2018, before transferring to Soho Theatre.

Willy likes to confront social hang-ups with autobiographic storytelling, comedy, fusion of theatrical form and cracking soundtracks. And Beyoncé. Willy graduated from The Oxford School of Drama and is an Associate Artist of the Exeter Phoenix.

Join Willy for a queer coming-of-age remix BOTTOM at the Marly, as he questions if ‘bottom’ in the bedroom means ‘bottom’ in life – and whether Beyoncé can help put his love on top.

With a cracking soundtrack, Willy’s funny, honest and open-hearted storytelling yanks the lid off the queer experience. He faces performance anxiety and the realities of being overworked, underpaid and under-respected.

This show is for anyone who hates making the first move. Anyone who thinks they are unlovable. Anyone that’s ever tried to be someone they’re not.

✭✭✭✭ Broadway Baby…..Willy Hudson’s heart-filled, charming and hysterical one man show sheds light on the hugely under-discussed areas of gay sexual politics with deft wit and incredible heart

BOTTOM is part of the Radical Softness Season of events.

Daniel Evans said: “Festival 2019 continues our aim of giving audiences the breadth of work they expect and relish. We’re premiering four plays: two by our new Writer-in-Residence, Anna Ledwich, including a brand new adaptation of one of Michael Morpurgo’s own favourite books, The Butterfly Lion; Nicholas Wright’s fascinating 8 Hotels, which examines the political repercussions of private passions; and we’re delighted to be partnering with Headlong and The Lowry on Cordelia Lynn’s Hedda Tesman.

“These, and our array of revivals and musicals, will be brought to life by an outstanding company of actors. Our directors include Nicole Charles, Kate Hewitt and Holly Race Roughan, all bright stars at the start of their careers, alongside the welcome Chichester debuts of Paul Foster and Paul Miller.

“October will see the installation of The Spiegeltent, providing an immersive setting for Roy Williams’s Sing Yer Heart Out for the Lads, as well as an exciting range of events for all tastes. Chichester Festival Youth Theatre promenade a new play by Anna Ledwich through the streets of Chichester; and our ongoing Ageless campaign aims to ensure that theatre and live art remain at the heart of people’s lives, whatever their age and circumstance.

“Our new Executive Director, Kathy Bourne, joins us in May; we both look forward to welcoming audiences to Festival 2019.”

BA’s Valentine’s flight takes off to BA

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, British Airways shows that love is really in the air by staffing an entire flight with couples working for the airline.

FIVE cabin crew sweethearts will be flying together on the BA245 from Heathrow to Buenos Aires, and then enjoy a romantic getaway in the Argentinian capital.

For three of the couples it was love at first flight, when they met while working at the airline, with one couple recently going back up the aisle to get married and another celebrating their engagement in December.

Carl and Nathan from Bristol married last November and joined the airline over four years ago.

Carl said: “We’ve been together 13 years – we work well together in every aspect of our lives, so working as colleagues on board is no different. We’re over the (honey)moon to be showing our customers some British Airways love on this very special flight.”

Carl and Nathan have travelled all over the world together and while working for British Airways they’ve visited New York, the Caribbean, Turkey, Spain and Florida.

The airline also played cupid for Aimee and Christopher who live together close to Heathrow Airport. The cabin crew couple got engaged last December.

They’ve flown together on 17 trips and enforce a ‘no plane talk’ rule at home. Their advice to other travelling couples is to stay in “contact as much as possible over FaceTime, stay in the same time zone if possible and remember to make time for each other on your days off.”

Aimee said: “We absolutely love working together and our jobs have afforded us some amazing opportunities – we’ve been on a horseback safari in Johannesburg, to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, to Niagara Falls in Toronto and wine tasting in Santiago!”
