Pride recognise Legends and Marine Tavern fundraising efforts

Pride directors Paul Kemp and Dulcie Danger recognised the fundraising efforts of two local businesses at the inaugural Pride Business Supporter Awards on Monday September 1 at the Brighton Metropole Hilton.

With sponsorship support of the cabaret tent to the value of £5,000 and 640 Village Party pledgebands sold, raising £640 for the Rainbow Fund grants programme, Legends received the Large Venue award, one of the two Pride Supporter Business awards on the evening.

The Small Venue award was given to the Marine Tavern, which sold 795 pledgebands, raising £795 for the Rainbow Fund .

Artists raise over £700 for Pride and The Rainbow Fund

Artists from the LGBTQ sector (and their supporters) raised £713.74 for Brighton Pride and the Rainbow Fund from their exhibition at Jubilee Library during this year’s Arts and Film Festival.

The self-funding event featured artwork from the local community and beyond, including items donated by Boy George and Nick Cave which were auctioned at the Private View.

Hizzie FletcherOrganiser Hizze Fletcher, of 13 Art Productions, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to the artists and all who were involved in the event. It’s always great how supportive the arts community are with charity fundraisers and this year the standard of work was exemplary. The LGBTQ Arts and Film Festival is an important addition to Brighton and we hope to continue its success and expansion.”

Calling all ‘budding’ singers!

Brighton and Hove’s Actually Gay Men’s Chorus and Actually Gay Women’s Chorus will both be holding open rehearsals during September.

Brighton Gay Men's CHorus

Whether you currently sing, or just think you sound good in the shower, the Choruses could be the place for you.

Both Choruses perform all year round, producing their own shows and appearing as guests at a number of private and charity performances.

Don’t worry if you can’t read music or haven’t sung since school, just go along, have a chat and a drink and even try a few notes.

Both Choruses rehearse at St Andrew’s Church, Waterloo Street, Hove.

Men’s rehearsal: Thursday, September 4 from 8 p.m.

Women’s rehearsal: Wednesday, September 10 from 8 p.m.
