The UK’s first national LGBTQ+ museum, Queer Britain, announces future plans

It’s been a dizzying first few weeks for Queer Britain, the UK’s first national LGBTQ+ museum, with its current display, Welcome To Queer Britain, running till Sunday, July 3.

Queer Britain say: “There have been tears of joy, robust debate, memories and laughter shared, and an overwhelming sense of pride amongst staff, volunteers, partners and those visiting the museum in Kings Cross.

“Nearly 8,000 guests have visited in six weeks; some bring material for our collection, some recognise themselves and their friends in the pictures on the wall. Some just tell us that they feel seen, because of the museum.

“Each day brings new surprises, challenges, friends and together we grow richer in knowledge about our pasts and communities.”

Queer Britain reopens on Wednesday, July 20 with an exhibition called We Are Queer Britain. This will be a riot of material – art, objects, photography and voices, to celebrate 50 years since the first UK Pride march.

Queer Britain added: “We hope you too will feel seen there. Watch this space for more information.”

If you want to get involved, Queer Britain is currently recruiting a full-time Business Manager (paid position) to lead on administration of the charity and trading subsidiary. It’s an opportunity to help make Queer Britain resilient and sustainable. For more info and to apply, CLICK HERE
