Hove MP Weatherley calls on residents to join ‘Rugby World Cup Volunteer Programme’

The 2015 Rugby World Cup is being held in the UK with two matches being staged in Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Volunteers are needed to help with the huge logistics operation of staging an international sporting event. As with the Olympics, thousands of volunteers are needed to ensure the smooth running of the matches.

Applications for volunteers open on Monday, March 17, with selection events happening all over the country in the second half of 2014.

Brighton & Hove’s successfully bid to stage two matches at the Amex Stadium. The first match will be held on Saturday, September 19 2015 and second on Sunday, September 20 2015. The first match will include former 1995 World Cup Winners South Africa.

Mike said:“Just like the Olympics, volunteers will play a crucial role in the success of the Rugby World Cup in 2015. The organisers of the tournament are looking for help from the public and so I hope that residents who are interested in Rugby will take part in this unique sporting opportunity.”

The American Express Community Stadium – known as The Amex – was completed in 2011 at a cost of £93 million. The stadium is the home of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and has capacity of 30,750.
