Brexit petition – Greens hold action evening in St Peters & North Laine

Besi Besemar March 10, 2018

Green Party organise new petition calling for a referendum on the final Brexit deal.

St Peters & North Laine Green Party will be taking the petition door to door in North Laine when they deliver a leaflet about the city’s housing and homelessness crisis to all residents in the ward.

If you fancy a bit of exercise and want to help, go along to Brighton & Hove Green Party Office, The Eco-Centre, 39-41 Surrey Street, Brighton BN1 3PB on Thursday, March 15 at 5pm.

It will all be done by 7pm when everyone will be heading to the Evening Star pub, 55-56 Surrey St, Brighton for a pint and chat.

The petition is an initiative of the former Mayor of Brighton & Hove, and ward Councillor for St Peters & North Laine, Pete West.

Cllr West said: “My fellow Green councillors will be rolling out the petition in their wards too. The petition is a request from the people of Brighton & Hove, and my hope is other towns and villages around the country might choose to adopt the wording.”

The petition reads: “The Government and Parliament were given a mandate to negotiate a Brexit deal for Britain. However, they have no right to impose a final deal. The people must have the final say on whether or not to accept the proposals on the table. We, the undersigned people of Brighton & Hove, call on the Government to allow the people the chance to have our say on the final terms of the Brexit deal negotiated with the EU, including the possibility that no deal may have been reached.”

“A ratification referendum would allow people a clear democratic choice between accepting the negotiated terms for Brexit or remaining part of the EU.”
