Portraits of queer performance artists Bird La Bird and David Hoyle to be shown at the Royal Society of Portrait Paintersā€™ Annual Exhibition at Mall Galleries in London from May 9 to May 24.

THE striking portraits, one of Bird La Bird by Sarah Jane Moon, who explores identity, sexuality and gender presentation, and another of performance artist, actor and radical drag performer David Hoyle, captured by Peter Field following a show in Brighton, will be hung among the sometimes straight-laced portraits of judges and landed gentry.

Peter Field said: ā€œI discovered Hoyle whilst reviewing art shows for a local magazine, and became quickly obsessed with his cabaret shows, eventually discoveringĀ his cult late night 90s Channel 4 show on YouTube.

“Hoyle as a person is a wonderful, quite contradictory mix of humour, sadness and righteous anger.ā€Ā
