A second piece of work by controversial artist and poet Vince Laws on show at the Jubilee Library as part of LGBT History Month celebrations has been censored by the authorities.
The piece a comment on Government benefit cuts to the low paid and people on disabled benefits called Eat the Poor has had references to the Lib Dems and Tories covered and censored with white cardboard.
The artist Vince Laws, said:
“It was interesting for me to test exactly how tolerant a city Brighton and Hove actually is. I called my exhibition BANNED and waited to see what the boundaries were for freedom of expression. If the authorities don’t agree with what I paint challenge what I say, don’t censor it.”
A spokesperson for the council said:
“Our general policy is that we do not display material promoting a particular political, philosophical or religious view point”.
The exhibition called BANNED is celebrating LGBT History Month at the Jubilee Library until Wednesday, February 14 and features a 60 metre banner on the libraries main windows spelling out the word BANNED in fake blood.
