Large drop in recorded crime

Besi Besemar July 22, 2013

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics this week reveal that crime recorded by police in England and Wales has fallen by 7% in the year ending March 2013.

Recorded crime is down by more than ten per cent under the present government, and the independent survey shows that the public’s experience of crime is at its lowest level since records began.

There was more good news locally as crime in Sussex fell 6% in the year to March 2013.

A separate independent Crime Survey of England and Wales has also shown that overall crime fell by 9 per cent – to the lowest level since the survey began in 1981.

Simon Kirby, MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven welcomed the announcement.

Simon said:

“This dramatic fall in crime is very welcome news, and above all else it is a testament to the fantastic work of the police force. I would like to pay special tribute to Sussex Police for the impressive drop in crime we have seen locally.

These statistics show that our police reforms are continuing to deliver results across the country with falls in crime in every police force in England and Wales.

I know that fighting crime is one of the top priorities for people in Brighton Kemptown and that is why I am delighted that under this Government the streets of my constituency are safer than they have been for decades.”
