2020 US presidential candidate Joe Biden shared a message of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community on National Coming Out Day: Sunday 11 October. Biden tweeted: “I want every member of the LGBTQ+ community to know you are loved and accepted just as you are — whether you’ve come out or not. I’ll fight every day in the White House to create a country where you can live open, proud, and free — without fear.”

His message was praised by many Twitter users, with one thanking him for ‘all he is doing’ for America. Another referred to him as the future president and thanked him for his words of support for the LGBTQ+ community.

Biden has vowed to create more LGBTQ+ inclusive policies if voted in on November 3. At a Human Rights Campaign gathering in September, reported by NBC, he said “together we’ll pass the Equality Act, protect LGBTQ youth, expand access to health care, support LGBTQ+ workers, win full rights for transgender Americans, recommit to ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic by 2025, advance LGBTQ+ rights around the globe, not just at home.”
