Hove MP Weatherley Backs Nuisance Call and Text Inquiry

Besi Besemar July 22, 2013

The Culture, Media & Sport Committee has decided to hold an inquiry into nuisance telephone calls and text messages. The Committee will investigate the current regulatory system and its enforcement, as well as the effectiveness of the Telephone Preference Service and practical measures by communications service providers to curtail such communications.

Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is backing the new inquiry.

Mike said:

“Anyone with a phone will know just how annoying these repeated nuisance calls can be. With the advent of text messages, the problem is even worse, with unwanted texts popping up 24 hours a day. As well as disturbing people, a huge amount of time is wasted answering calls and reading and deleting nuisance messages. Something has to be done, which is why I am backing the DCMS Committee in addressing this issue.”

How to Respond:

The Committee requests short written submissions in Word format.

A copy of the submission should be sent by e-mail to cmsev@parliament.uk and should have ‘Nuisance calls’ in the subject line.

Submissions should be received by Thursday 15th August 15, 2013.
