Mind Matter variety show raises over £1,200 for Sussex mental health charity, Heads On

Minds Matter, a newly created local organisation, hosted a spectacular variety show at the Shoreham Centre in March to raise funds for mental health charity Heads On.

Brighton band The Empty Seats headlined the event, which also saw performances by local sea shanty group The Welly Wailers, youth dance group Diverse Dance Works and stand-up comedian Hasan Al-Habib. TV personality Brooke Lowther made a guest appearance, speaking about her lived mental health issues.

The event raised just over £1,200 for Heads On, the official charity for Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which provides specialist mental health, learning disability and neurodevelopmental services to people living in South East England.

Courtney Everett, Sussex Partnership staff member and founder of Minds Matter, said: “Mental health is hugely important to me both professionally and personally. I wanted to create an event that would spread awareness and raise money for Heads On, but also be fun and memorable. Knowing we did that brings me so much joy. Thanks to everyone who helped make this show happen.”

Abi Harley, Charity Office, added: “Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. The money raised at the variety show will enable Heads On to help people with mental health issues to feel supported, stay active and be more involved in their communities. Huge thanks to Courtney, her team of volunteers and all the acts for putting on such a fantastic event.”
