Eastbourne Pride 2020 cancelled due to Covid-19

May 7, 2020

The Covid-19 pandemic has been terrible news for Pride festivals up and down the country – the latest to announce that its event has been cancelled is Eastbourne Pride.

First held in 2017, Eastbourne Pride was due to be held on Saturday July 18. A packed day was expected to see a parade followed by the Pride in the Park event and then an after-party. However, the current circumstances have made it impossible to do that.

The organisers have decided that the ‘health and wellbeing of the community and town should be everyone’s top priority’. They thanked everyone who had supported and attended the event in recent years. There was a glimmer of hope, though, with #DigitalPride possibly being on the horizon. It will be interesting to see what that may be about.

Eastbourne Pride has been an award-winning event in recent years. Last year, it won the 2019 Community Event of the Year in the Eastbourne & District Community Awards.

Consultations will be held with the Eastbourne Borough Council and Events team to try to arrange a new date. This may be later in the year or more likely 2021.
