A safe haven for Blackpool’s LGBTQ+ community

Gscene Editorial Team January 21, 2020

Luke and John Conway, co-founders of LGBT Charity UK, have set up a safe haven for Blackpool‘s LGBTQ+ community in the heart of the gay village, which will open on MondayFebruary 3.

Luke and John, who have been married for four years, are drawing on their own experiences of being gay to help others and have ploughed more than £8,000 of their savings into the headquarters which, once it opens, will also serve as a charity shop and a base for their support services.

Luke said: “We want it to be an open door for people of any age in the LGBTQ+ community. We will be above the shop so even if someone needs us at 8pm at night, we want to be there for them.

“We want to create an atmosphere where LGBTQ+ people are free to be who they are, love who they love, and live without fear of violence, harassment or discrimination.”

LGBT Charity UK, which will be based at 100-102 Talbot Road, Blackpool, gained charitable status at the beginning of December after two years of hard work and preparation.
