REVIEW: Rainbow Chorus: 25 at Christmas

December 12, 2022

What a wonderful evening! And a wonderful world! One of the songs in one of the choral mash ups alongside I Love You. Where to start in describing this joyous event? The mash up of songs was delightful – First Noel alongside Pachelbel’s Canon, and pop and soul songs Stand By Me and Electric Dreams jostling with Christmas carols.

The Rainbow Chorus, celebrating 25 years of glorious singing, knows how to please a crowd, and led by their effervescent, musical director Aneesa Chaudhry, the tone was casual and participative. Everyone joined in!

There were stand out numbers: Africa and Bridge Over Troubled Water, leading to Rag ‘n’ Bone Man’s Human. Plus the Italian Con te Partirò (Time to Say Goodbye) rose emotionally in the church setting. Many of the songs had stand out soloists, and the 60 strong choir blended beautifully.

St George’s Church was packed with over 400 tickets sold and the atmosphere couldn’t have been more Christmassy! Mulled wine, mince pies, twinkly lights, a light show, Christmas jumpers – it would have been weird not to have joined in singing, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.

The applause was rapturous and the encore well deserved. A wonderfully feelgood concert on a chilly night. Well done to the chair Katy Jenner, Aneesa and all who sang in the Rainbow Chorus.

Aneesa explained that people can join the committed choir, either weekly or more casually, monthly. CLICK HERE to find out more. Their slogan Strength in Harmony is also very apt!
