Brighton Science Festival -returns from February 16-24

Brighton Science Festival packs this February half-term with a full programme of events, workshops and shows for young people which showcase the wonderful world of science.

HANDS-On Half-Term celebrates the scientific method – how the best way to learn about science is by trying something yourself, making mistakes, and learning from them. With this spirit of discovery in mind, oranisers have put together a programme to inspire, educate and enthral young people.
The Pocket Science Funfair will be setting up camp at the i360 with a whole fairground worth of fun. The Booth Museum celebrates International Women’s Day with an event celebrating the wonder women of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), and the Marine Conservation Society delves into the mysterious life of seaweed.
Science showman Ian B Dunne brings his Science Magic show back to the Brighthelm Centre – this time with added robots! There will be opportunities to investigate the science of sound, with a Sound Sculpture workshop at the i360 and the ground-breaking Artoscope drop-in at C:\SIDE QUEST fusing the worlds of science and art.
Forensic Theatre bring the science behind CSI to life with theatrical sessions at the Walrus, whilst Richard Robinson (Brighton Science Festival director) takes us on a whistlestop tour through 14 billion years of evolution – from the Big Bang to Bognor Regis.
There’s technological taster sessions from local favourites MakerClub, and the chance to learn the basics of coding with Curiosity Hub and Venture Coders. Other workshops take a tilt at reinventing devices as diverse as the wind turbine, the aeroplane and everyone’s favourite medieval weapon, the trebuchet. It should make the most budding inventor feel at home.
Festival stalwarts Lighthouse and ONCA launch a full selection of events and workshops, including rebuilding the city from the ground up (Minecraft style) or reimagining how different technology could be in a more sustainable world. There’ll also be the chance to settle in on the seafront for a night of stargazing – dress warm!
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The full programme offers a week packed with events so fun, you won’t realise you’re learning something.
