PREVIEW: Siren reform with show at Marlborough

Siren a New Wave band who toured their lesbian feminist shows and played as a band throughout the 1980’s has reformed.

Siren

Previously members of Brighton bands Devils Dykes and Bright Girls, Jude Winter, Tash Fairbanks, Jane Boston and Deb Trethewey formed the radical lesbian feminist company, Siren.

The band has reformed and are back at the Marlborough Theatre, where they made their debut all those years ago playing tracks from their two albums as well as newly written songs.

The songs reflect lesbian feminist politics as well as other topics of the time such as The Falklands war and the peace movement, and is accompanied by visual images.

For those who are older, go along for a blast of nostalgia and for those who are younger, go and see one of Brighton’s best loved women’s bands, who are still wowing audiences with their perspective in their new topical songs.

Danny took part in the BT Tower Climb challenge in London today, Sunday March 6, climbing over 1000 steps to reach the top of the iconic London landmark in 8 mins 43 secs, coming 96th out of 287 runners.

Danny said: “I want to thank everyone who sponsored me. It wasn’t about the competition but about joining in with the other supporters of the hospital raising money for a great cause.

He  continued: “The views from the top of the tower were totally amazing and well worth the climb yet any tribulations in my life are nothing compared to what these children and their families face every single day of their lives.”

Danny raised over £300 in sponsorship and in total the climb is expected to raise over £100,000 for Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity, who raise money so that Great Ormond Street Hospital can continue to provide world-class care for its young patients and their families, and pioneer new treatments and cures for childhood illnesses.
