County Mayo to open its first ever LGBTQ+ drop-in centre

OutWest, the long-running LGBTQ+ advocacy group, have announced the opening of the first ever LGBTQ+ drop-in centre in County Mayo, Ireland on Saturday, January 18, which will provide a positive atmosphere of socialisation and relaxation. The centre will provide a relaxed welcoming space for LGBT+ people, families and partners to socialise, chat, and make connections.

Based in the Le Chéile Family Resource Centre in Castlebar, the centre will be open every Saturday between 12.45—2.45pm and will have board games, books, tea and coffee and lots of space for people to relax and hangout.

Aurélie, OutWest Group Chairperson, said:“Being LGBTQ+ in the West of Ireland can be an isolating experience but there is also wonderful community here. Since 1997 OutWest has been supporting and building the LGBTQ+ community in the west. Our new drop-in centre is the next step in that process.”

John, OutWest Vice-Chairperson, added: “We want the drop-in to be an open and welcoming space for all members of the LGBTQ+ community and our allies.”

Vice-Chairperson John has also called on members of the community to help out on the project. If you think you can help, email info@outwest.ie.

OutWest were set up in 1997 and have launched numerous projects supporting the LGBTQ+ communities and their latest initiative continues this work.
