Council advises on how to stay safe on Brighton Beach & seafront this Christmas
Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus support campaign to help save and restore the Art Deco building at Saltdean Lido, the only Grade 2 Star listed building in the U.K. The #lovesaltdeanlido campaign was launched recently with this purpose in mind.
Simon Kirby, Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven is furious about plans to build a second outdoor swimming pool at the Peter Pan site on Madeira Drive in Brighton. Mr Kirby championed the renovation of the Art Deco, Grade II listed Saltdean Lido and in light of recent announcements that the funding is now secured, he is calling on Brighton and Hove City Council to urgently rethink the proposal to allow a second outdoor pool in the city.
Simon Kirby, the Conservative MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, will be announcing today (Monday, January 26) that the Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company (CIC), is to receive £2.3 million in funding from the Government to restore the outside area and pools of Saltdean Lido.
Planning Minister Brandon Lewis MP visited the Saltdean Lido on Friday, January 9 to discuss planning issues affecting local residents.
Since 2010 the Government has taken a number of steps to ensure brownfield land is prioritised for new housing development – including abolishing top-down regional strategies which had earmarked Green Belt land for new development, and selling enough publicly-owned, surplus brownfield sites for 100,000 homes.
Simon Kirby, MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, yesterday met with a Minister from the Department for Communities and Local Government to press the case for funding for the Saltdean Lido.
The Lido, has already benefitted from a substantial amount of Government funding to enable it to reopen the swimming pool this summer, but still needs to raise money to complete the refurbishment of the Centre.

In her role as Parliamentary-Under Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government, Penny Mordaunt MP is responsible for coastal towns.
