Close to 8,000 runners turned out to run The Grand Brighton Half Marathon today, February 24, enjoying beautiful sunny weather to run 13.1 miles around the city under crystal-clear blue skies.
Charity places in The Grand Brighton Half Marathon close on Sunday, February 3 and runners are being urged to sign up to avoid missing out. THE 29th Brighton Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, February 24. General entries to the race sold out in December and charity places are now the only way to enter.
It’s back! Brighton’s much-loved HEROES RUN returns on Sunday, May 13 in aid of the children’s therapy service at local domestic abuse charity RISE. Participants are encouraged to dress in their favourite hero costume and run along Hove seafront in aid of charity.
Village MCC Brighton and Hove host AJ Patterson this evening as part of their PRIDE VOICES series. AJ who describes herself as “Just a girl with a story of life” is known by many for her work at the LGBT+ Community Safety Forum, and RISE who offer advice, advocacy, support and crisis accommodation for anyone (of any gender) affected by domestic abuse. Her story touches both the mind and the heart.
Councillor Mo Marsh was appointed Mayor of the City of Brighton & Hove at a meeting of the full council on May 18. She replaces the present Mayor Cllr Pete West and will serve the city for the next 12 months. Cllr Marsh has been a Labour councillor since 1995, balancing her civic life representing the residents of Moulsecoomb and Bevendean with her family life, spending time with her daughter and grandchildren while indulging her love of the arts and culture.
Concerns about personal safety in city taxis were raised by entertainer Dave Lynn at the quarterly meeting of the Brighton & Hove LGBT Community Safety Forum at the Queens Hotel last month. He told the meeting about an incident he experienced in a taxi when he felt threatened and demanded the driver stop and let him out.

This August MADE Brighton will host the Women of Wrestling show, which made it’s debut last year at the Doomed Photographers Gallery in London. The exhibition will contain work on the theme from both established and up and coming Brighton based artists and designers.
