Boltz nightclub – a fetish club on Kent Street in Birmingham’s gay village – could be demolished to accommodate a new 15-storey apartment block
Southside Business Improvement District (Southside BID) – home to Birmingham’s gay village – has unveiled an ambitious new strategic vision which aims to “drive economic growth and support its future development as a diverse cultural centre”.
Lawrence Barton has been appointed the new Night-Time Economy Champion by Birmingham City Council. This appointment comes after he received the backing of the Leader of Birmingham City Council and the Chairs of the City Centre Business Improvement Districts (BIDs).
Plans for a 12-story block of multi-million-pound apartments in Birmingham’s gay village have been withdrawn after concerns regarding noise and the nightlife economy. The complex – which was the latest in a line of housing developments in the area – would have housed 133 apartments.
Lawrence Barton, Birmingham Pride’s director, has backed a motion by Conservative councillors Gareth Moore and Adam Higgs, calling for a permanent home for Birmingham Pride within the city.
Manchester Airport, the UK’s third largest, joins forces with Birmingham Pride to be one of the sponsors at this year’s event in May. As part of the sponsorship the airport will brand and name the Cabaret Marquee Stage, which will now be known as The Manchester Airport Cabaret Marquee.
