Virtual Pride to shine spotlight on north east performers

Graham Robson April 22, 2021

North East LGBTQ+ artists and performers are invited to showcase their talent at Northern Pride Online 2.1, which takes place on Saturday, July 24 and is sponsored by Barclays.

Leading charity Northern Pride recently announced that its 2021 festival would move online, with award-winning DJ and presenter Gok Wan and Boulevard favourite Miss Rory stepping in as hosts.

The charity is keen to shine a spotlight on new and emerging artists along with seasoned performers and applicants should be available on May 19 for the paid opportunity.

The eight-hour event is being filmed at a specially built studio and is being produced by entertainment production company ISG, which is using an allocation of its Cultural Recovery Fund to supply a full 360 production service, including stage, sound and a full video recording media suite.

Viewers will also be able to watch behind the scenes segments with performers in the green room, with upcycled furniture supplied by local charity and care provider, St Oswald’s Hospice.

And Northern Pride is hoping to feature pieces from LGBTQ+ artists of any medium on set, which will be promoted throughout the day and later auctioned off – with all proceeds going back to the creator.

Ste Dunn, Director of Northern Pride, is looking forward to their second virtual event. “We are really excited about giving a platform to up and coming artists and performers this summer so we hope anyone who is thinking about applying will go for it,” he said.

“Going online again means we will get to show parts of the day that would usually be behind closed doors and I think our green room will be a great addition to the event.

“The most important part of Pride is the community and, while we can’t be together physically this year, we have some really exciting plans in the works for what is already shaping up to be an incredible show.”
