Trans former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner has been mocked on social media after supporting President Donald Trump, who signed an executive order recognising only two genders.
Jenner, one of the most recognisable trans women in the world, has backed Trump since 2016 and is a longtime Republican.
‘Congratulations Mr. President. Thanks be to God!’ Jenner posted on X the afternoon Trump was inaugurated.
The backlash was swift, with one follower replying: ‘You’re a disgrace to your entire community.’
Another X user remarked, “Were you in the front row for that? I don’t understand how you can support an office that is trying to re-alienate you from society?” Another asked, “He just publicly said you are not accepted, how do you feel about him now?”
Jenner also made a series of Instagram posts on Inauguration Day. In one, she declared she was ‘happier than ever’ supporting Trump.
That post was similarly full of derisive comments attacking the former Olympian and one-time gold medallist.
During his inaugural address, Trump made the official declaration that there are only two genders and laid out plans to ban trans people from serving in the military, and ban trans women from sports.
‘As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders – male and female,’ he said, prompting a standing ovation.
