Members of Liverpool’s trans communities to come together on Trans Day of Visibility to share stories and call for a more accessible and inclusive world

A series of events to celebrate Trans Day of Visibility (TDoV), which is held annually on March 31, will be taking place at the end of March in Liverpool.

TDoV marks a time to celebrate trans and non-binary people, and to raise awareness of the discrimination faced by the community worldwide. The awareness day also provides an opportunity for trans and non-binary people to feel seen through positive and realistic representation – and for allies to learn more about how they can stand in solidarity.

This year, members of Liverpool’s trans communities will come together to share their stories and ultimately call for a more accessible and inclusive world. Over the weekend, the Museum of Liverpool will be taken over by a series of talks, performances, workshops and a makers’ market – all of which aim to spread trans joy.

Kate Sanders, chair of Spirit Level – a trans Support Group in the city, said: “TDoV means that for one or two days a year, we become a real community, celebrate our identity, and build new bonds of friendship and understanding.”

Scarlett Rose, project officer of Out of the Shadows, a project created by Spirit Level, added: “TDoV is important to me because, as an out and proud trans woman, I feel it is important to show the joyful and human side of the trans community.

“We are so often vilified in the media that people forget we are less than 1% of the population and we don’t want to hurt anyone. All we want to do is be happy, joyful, and loved and to be allowed to live as ourselves authentically without hate or bigotry.”
