Through Her Eyes, is a short film campaign started by a transgender woman from North Somerset.
The film is attracting a lot of attention for its unusual and innovate portrayal of trans* life, and aims to take the audience into the mind of a trans* women, showing them what it is like to see the world through her eyes.
We see, her face discrimination, abuse, and her own daemons in the same way many trans* women do, each and every day.
Production of the film is currently well underway. The public campaign is now live and picking up steam.
The Project aims to create a greater level of empathy and understanding between the general population, and the trans* community. Through this understanding, they hope that people will become more accepting and thoughtful when addressing trans* issues, or encountering a member of the trans* community.
This project is created by trans* people, to help improve the lives of members of the trans* community. It is people standing up for themselves, and saying we will actively try and make a change – In this case, to the way trans* people are portrayed through the media. What the film makers want is simple: A more honest portrayal of transgender individuals in film/TV, and more empathy and understanding towards the transgender community.
The public campaign for the project launched last week, and is quickly building momentum and has passed its minimum level of funding. In the process the project is receiving a growing volume of coverage within the LGBT community through social media and the web; people are rallying round this small but inspiring project.
Organisers are now looking to push on, and see just how far they can go. The more resources and support they receive, the better their chances are of really helping people and inspiring change.
Being filmed and produced in November and December they aim to premier the film in spring 2013, in a range of locations. It will also be hosted online, free to watch, and accompanied by a range of transgender information and resources.
