June 7, 2016

The Pride Diversity Games weekend in July will see some serious competition but there’s also some really fun events too.

What’s really great about sport is the fact it can be so much fun. It’s not all about stony faces as your team fails to win promotion again or get relegated.

That’s definitely the case with the Rainbow 5k Run that takes place on Sunday July 24 at the Preston Park run circuit.

The Rainbow Run has proved to be one of the most popular elements of the Pride Diversity Games weekend. You meet up at 11.30am and the start line will be right by the café in the North end of the park. Probably best to not have too many cups of tea before you start the run at midday. Thankfully most of the circuit is flat but this isn’t all about posting a quick time.

The tournament partners are Minimal Sportswear.

Tracy J Davenport from Minimal Sportswear, said: “Run or walk, we don’t mind, we just want you to get out there and give it a go.” There’ll be a “fantastic disco themed soundtrack to get your groove on to.” Not to mention the “hilariously funny items” you’ll pick up on the way. Heaven knows what you could end up wearing or carrying around Preston Park.”

A bespoke medal will be presented to you just for taking part.

As Tracy says: “Everyone is a winner.”

There will be prizes for the first male and female to finish with the awards presentation later in the day once they get your breath back.

Whether you’re just out for some fun or looking to run a personal best, this is a great way to start the day at Preston Park with lots more fun events taking place including a tug-of-war and even an egg ‘n spoon race. You don’t get that in the Olympics do you?

The registration deadline is June 30 and cost of entry is £10. Late entries may be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
