Out To Swim, which runs LGBTQ+ swimming clubs across the UK including Bristol, Brighton and London, has announced it has expanded into two new cities, Bournemouth and Newcastle.
The LGBTQ+ swimming club was founded in London in 1992 by a small band of enterprising swimmers from the LGBTQ+ community. In 2006 the club expanded by launching a branch in Brighton & Hove and a further club was founded in Bristol in 2018.
Out to Swim is the UK largest LGBTQ+ aquatics club in the UK and the Brighton branch is the largest masters club in Sussex.

Out to Swim Bournemouth was founded in 2023 and officially became part of Out to Swim in 2025. The club meets at Stokewood Leisure Centre on a Sundays 6.30pm. The club is also looking to run open water sessions along the bay.
The club said: “Our motivation is to encourage everyone to return to swimming, develop skills and have fun in a warm and welcoming community.”

Out to Swim Newcastle started as a group of like-minded individuals who started pilots in December 2024. The team involved are experienced and have come from previous OTS clubs, business experience, and marketing. They swim at Heworth Leisure Centre on Mondays at 7.45pm and Saturdays at 11am, and Tuesdays at Lakeside Leisure Centre from 7.30pm.
The club uses private lanes, separate from the general public, although in April they will look at a whole pool session on Thursdays (Details to be confirmed in the future).

Out To Swim Brighton & Hove is a sociable group of LGBTQ+ people and allies who swim for fun, fitness or competitions, and provide a friendly environment for those who prefer the social aspect of the club, in the Brighton & Hove and Sussex area.
