Free summer activities for children and young people

July 22, 2020

Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) has announced a varied programme of activities during the summer holidays for children and young people in the city, including arts and crafts, fitness, sport, beach days, play schemes, family get-togethers, fishing, music, or just having fun.

The council, local charities, community groups and businesses have adapted their normal youth offer in light of government guidance on social distancing.

Youth workers will also be engaging with young people across the city in places where they gather. They will be looking to build positive relationships with the young people and provide support and guidance.

Cllr John Allcock, chair of the BHCC’s Children, Young People and Skills Committee, said: ‘Despite the Coronavirus restrictions we and our local partners have still managed to put together a really fun range of activities this summer.

‘They will generally take place outdoors in open spaces. Online services will also be available.

‘Inevitably there are fewer activities than last year. With that in mind we are prioritising children and young people from more disadvantaged backgrounds.

‘Let’s also not forget that in Brighton & Hove we’re lucky to have the beach and our parks, where everyone can go and have fun for free.’
