To be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017 the race is a firm fixture on the running calendar both locally and nationally, and as one of the first half marathons of the year, the event proves popular with beginners and experienced runners alike.

With record sales for the 27th year of the race so far, organisers expect standard place registrations to close soon.

Race Director Martin Harrigan, said: “The race proves incredibly popular each year and so far we’ve seen record sales since we opened registrations earlier this year. 2017 promises to be another great race year, and following on from this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio, we hope to welcome even more beginners to the half marathon distance. For anyone tempted to dip their toe in and try a half marathon, we’d say, do it! Brighton is a sports-loving city, and each and every year we always have great crowd support along the 13.1 mile course.”

The much-loved half marathon is a major race organised by a small local charity. The Sussex Beacon is a Brighton-based charity which provides a range of services for men, women and families living with or affected by HIV across Sussex. The annual race is the charity’s major fundraising event each year.

As well as a standard place, runners can also choose to run and fundraise for charity, and the event currently has over 20 partner charities signed up, with more expected over the coming weeks. Runners can choose to run for local charities Chestnut Tree House, RISE and The Sussex Beacon, plus many national charities including Laureus, WaterAid and Macmillan.

The race started in 1990 as a small event involving around 200 runners from local athletic clubs and has become an established event for those training for a Spring marathon, such as London or Brighton Marathon.

The race forms part of the Vitality Run Series, a series of seven leading half marathons and two 10Ks in the UK.
