Scene from the Sofa – Five Minutes with… Linda Bacardi

Flynn Allsup-Burge is the mastermind behind Linda Bacardi, who performs visual mime comedy, sings a wide range of tunes including camp, musicals, pop and more, and likes a drink – usually a stiff one!

Hi, how’s it going?

On a day to day basis since the lockdown I’ve been working as a key worker/care worker for the elderly with dementia.

As far as Linda Bacardi is concerned, care work has meant she has taken a back seat. However, it’s my birthday on Sunday, April 5th which means she will be doing a Facebook live party with white wine, gags and funny Agony Aunt resolutions.

Haha! Hope it goes well…

For myself, nothing can beat the buzz of performing to a live crowd. A mixture of vibe, ambience and alcohol. The online experience is something new to explore for many performers and can seem difficult when it seems more one way. However, the challenge is good and reception encouraging.

Have you seen many other performers doing Facebook Live?

Drag With No Name, Baga Chipz, Stephanie Von Clitz, Mrs Moore and Charlie Hides to name but a few. It is a testament to someone’s popularity when their followers tune in to watch them try and do the same online as they would normally do on stage.

Any tips for our readers in lockdown?

Stay positive. Use the time to do something productive that you wouldn’t normally have been bothered with. Dig out the caustic soda and clean the toilet pan with a toothbrush, lol. Stay happy. Things will get better in time.

What are your plans for when this is all over?

To don the slap and the frocks and get back out there gigging and DJing again. Maybe with a tad of white wine and Tuaca. Lol.

What do you miss the most?

Socialising with friends by day. Being able to don the tits n tights and entertain by night.

Any words of wisdom?

Don’t get too down. There are people here helping us rise above it. When all this is over, you’ll look back on this and at life with fresh eyes. Where there are dark days there is always a silver lining.
