PANEL: Gender, violence and racially minoritised communities

A free online session, hosted by University of Sussex‘s Centre for Gender Studies, is to explore issues around sexual and gender based violence and abuse for people who experience racism on Wednesday, June 30 from 1pm. 

Speakers include Dr Geetanjali Gangoli, Associate Professor in Sociology at Durham University; Yasmin Valli, Sexual Violence Advisor at Survivors’ NetworkDany Uyanik, BAME Officer at University of Sussex.

Focus will include intersectionalities between different forms of disadvantage and inequalities including ethnicity, class, disability, religion/faith, and immigration status.

Speakers collectively represent practitioner, academic research, and student voice perspectives. You will hear from each expert speaker before space for discussion between speakers and opportunity for questions from the audience.

Discussion will include focus around experiences, challenges, and issues for researchers and service providers to be aware of in working with sexual violence survivors from racially minoritised communities.
