As the abundance of rainbow flags fly high for Pride Month, OutdoorLads and The North Face have teamed up to celebrate the simple joy of the outdoors with an organised hike – and everyone is invited.
Taking place on Sunday, June 26, the free event is open to any adult, of any age, ability, or hiking experience for a nine-mile expedition, discovering the delights of Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, whilst meeting other like-minded people with shared interests.
The walk, described as an ‘easy to moderate’ route, includes some climbs and is anticipated to take around four hours to complete. A pit-stop half way through will take in the sights of the picturesque village of Peaslake whilst enjoying a spot of well-earned tea and cake.
Liam Russell, Programme Manager for OutdoorLads, shares more detail: “The hike will be very much like one of our regular events, whether it be camping or climbing, cycling or hiking: people join us for the first time not knowing anyone and then end up finishing their activity with new group of friends.”
The relationship between the two brands is one of four created especially for Pride Month and to support the launch of The North Face’s 2022 Pride collection campaign. Selected European non-profit organisations have been approached based on their focus of creating inclusivity and connection in the outdoors with the LGBTQ+ community. A member-led activities charity, OutdoorLads has been chosen as the UK representative, alongside the other partners for France, Germany, and Italy.
Liam Russell continues: “Our hike marks the culmination of our work with The North Face for Pride Month; our members have already shared a few outings with them and now the wider community is welcome to join us for the last one. You don’t need to be an OutdoorLads member, just sign-up to the event, turn up and have fun.”
