A research project studying Older LGBTQ+ people and the impact of Covid-19 is looking for participants.
Jointly led by Professor Trish Hafford-Letchfiled, Dr Sue Westwood and Dr Michale Toze, the purpose of the study is to take a “temperature check” of how older LGBT+ people in the UK are impacted by Covid-19 mandatory social isolation, and to understand the coping strategies they are using to manage their situations. The findings from this study will be used to inform organisations developing responses to support them being more inclusive and sensitive as well as to highlight any gap or needs for specialist support services.
For the purposes of this study, Older is defined as 60+ and LGBT+ is defined as lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans+ (transgender and non-conforming)

Professor Trish Hafford-Letchfiled: Trish is Professor of Social Work and Social :Policy at the University of Strathclyde. Her background is in nursing and social work. Her research interests lie in the experiences of ageing in marginalised communities. She has a strong interest in the rights of LGBT+ communities and is a founder member of the international LGBTQI social work network.
Dr Sue Westwood : Sue is a Lecturer at York Law School, University of York. Her teaching includes an undergraduate and postgraduate module in law, gender and sexuality, which she designed and now leads. Sue’s background is in gerontology and in feminist approaches to law and society. Her research interests lie in ageing, diversity and equality and in LGBT+ ageing in particular.
Dr Michael Toze: Michael is a Lecturer in Public Health and Social Determinants of Health at Lincoln Medical School University of Lincoln. He previously worked in local government policy and performance management before completing his PhD. His interests are in public health, health inequalities and LGBT+ health and ageing, with a special interest in trans health
